Keep score at Mölkky without pen and paper

Scoring Mölkky is simple on paper and annoying in practice: one fallen pin scores its number, several fallen pins score their count, and everyone forgets the drop back to 25.

Mölkky Score takes care of it.

Solo, group, or team games

Every player for themselves or in teams, with a configurable target score — 50 points for a classic game, 30 for a quick one.

The drop back to 25, applied automatically

If a player goes over the target, their score drops back to 25. It’s the most common scoring mistake at the end of a game, and you never have to think about it again.

The three-miss rule

Three consecutive throws without touching a pin eliminate the player — or reset their score to zero, depending on your settings. The app tracks the miss count for each player.

Winning sets

A match can be played over several sets. The game ends as soon as a player or team wins the required number of sets.

Run a Mölkky tournament in minutes

Two modes, depending on the format you want for your tournament.

Leisure mode: the knockout bracket

No limit on players or teams. The app builds a bracket sized to however many entrants you register. The winner of each match moves on to the next round.

Official mode: pool phase, then Gold and Silver brackets

A complete setup, built for a real club or company tournament:

  1. Pool phase — entrants are split into pools, with a number of courts and a distribution you choose. Each pool plays a fixed number of sets.
  2. Final brackets — once pools are done, players are sorted into a Gold bracket or a Silver bracket based on their ranking, each with its own knockout format.

Bronze match, final, and podium

Semi-final losers play a bronze-medal match. The final decides gold and silver.

Random team generator

Handy when nobody wants to be the one picking teams.

ELO ranking and player profile

ELO ranking doesn’t just count wins — it weighs how strong your opponent was: beating a beginner earns little, beating the group’s champion sends you flying up the ranks.

Every player gets a profile with:

  • a Precision, Toughness, Composure, Power, Form radar chart;
  • their Nemesis and Easy prey — the opponent who beats them most often, and the one they dominate;
  • their personal records and progress curve.

All your Mölkky stats

Games played, podiums, eliminations, total throws, points per throw. Enough to settle any post-game argument with numbers.

Share the score live during the game

The app publishes the game or tournament to a private web page, updated in real time: scores, sets, throws, pools and bracket. You share it by QR code, link, or a printable poster — useful for a club or company tournament, where spectators follow along on their phone.

Data is automatically deleted 48 hours after the game ends. Nothing stays online.

Export and archive your games

  • Tournament sheet, match table and bracket in PDF
  • Full game history and tournament summary
  • Backup and restore your players and history in JSON format
  • Player cards with photo, taken with the camera or picked from the gallery

The rules of Mölkky, right in the app

The full rules and the pin-placement diagram are built in: the goal, setting up the 12 pins, the throwing line at 3 to 4 metres, scoring, the three-miss rule, going over 50. No more digging through the box for the rulebook.

What devices does Mölkky Score run on?

The app is available on Android, at version 1.0.21. It’s translated into nine languages, including Finnish, Swedish and Estonian — Mölkky is a Finnish game, and that’s where it’s played the most. Light, dark, or system theme.

  • The 12 numbered Mölkky pins and the wooden throwing baton, the Finnish outdoor game
  • Placement of the 12 Mölkky pins in a tight cluster, showing the official layout of numbers 1 to 12

Frequently asked questions

Is Mölkky Score free?
Yes, the app is free. You can keep score, manage your players and run tournaments without paying anything and without creating an account.
Do I need an internet connection to keep score?
No. Scoring, tournaments and history all work offline. Only the live score sharing feature needs a connection, since it publishes the game to a web page.
What happens if you go over 50 points in Mölkky?
The player's score drops back to 25. The app applies this rule automatically, which removes the single most common scoring mistake at the end of a game.
How many pins are there in Mölkky?
Twelve pins numbered 1 to 12, arranged in a tight cluster, plus the throwing baton — the mölkky itself. The throwing line is drawn 3 to 4 metres from the pins.
How does scoring work?
If exactly one pin falls, you score its number. If several pins fall, you score the number of pins knocked down, not the sum of their numbers. A pin only counts if it's completely on the ground.
Can you play in teams?
Yes, in teams or every player for themselves. A random team generator is built in, which is handy when nobody wants to pick sides.
How many players can a tournament have?
No limit at all: the app builds a knockout bracket sized to however many players or teams you enter. Semi-final losers play a bronze-medal match, and the final decides gold and silver.
What's the difference between Leisure mode and Official mode?
Leisure mode generates a knockout bracket straight away. Official mode adds a pool phase first: entrants are split into pools, then re-sorted into a Gold bracket or a Silver bracket based on their pool results. It's the format built for a real club or company tournament.
How do I share the score with an audience?
The app publishes the game or tournament to a private web page, updated in real time. You share it by QR code, link, or a printable poster. Data is automatically deleted 48 hours after the game ends.
